    A Sneak Peak of the 2019 I2SL Annual Conference: Lessons Learned from Designing and Operating Labs

    This presentation will give the Rocky Mountain ASHRAE Chapter a sneak peak of two I2SL presentations focusing on lessons learns in labs. The first presentation will focus on airflow management in large scale labs utilizing a combination of CFD modeling and ongoing testing to ensure ACGIH and OSHA requirements are met and maintained. The second presentation is a case study highlighting enhanced energy recovery systems for vivarium humidification and lab exhaust cooling.   

    Sean Convery, PE is a Mechanical Principal at Cator, Ruma & Associates in Denver, CO and a founding Board Member of the Colorado I2SL Chapter. His 24 years of mechanical design experience include energy-efficient mechanical systems for wet and dry research labs, veterinary medicine facilities, and higher education campuses. To date, he has been involved in the design of over 70 lab projects, many of them Bio-Safety Level 3 (BSL-3). He has been a speaker at many past I2SL National Conferences.

    Adam Acree, PE is a Mechanical Associate at Cator, Ruma & Associates in Denver, CO and has 13 years of experience in mechanical design.  His design experience ranges from higher education campuses and laboratories to office buildings and healthcare facilities, with an emphasis on energy efficiency. Adam has managed the design of numerous laboratory facilities, most recently the new Biology building and the Anatomy/Zoology Addition at Colorado State University.

    Jay Campbell joined the CU Denver | Anschutz facilities team in 2015, and is responsible for all building maintenance & operations, engineering and utilities spanning two campuses, 150+ acres, 38 buildings, and 4.5+ million gross sqft. He is active in Rocky Mountain APPA, having served on the host committee for RMA 2018 in Aurora, CO. In addition, he is President-Elect for the Colorado chapter of APPA (COAPPA). Jay enjoyed an 8-year U.S. Navy nuclear career and 14-years in the manufacturing industry prior to realizing that Higher Education is the place to be.

    Mark Labac, PE, LEED AP is President of Edge Mechanical Systems, a specialty Manufacturer’s Rep in Colorado. The firm specializes in energy efficient equipment such as Accutrol, Composite Air Designs, Ingenia, MeeFog, and MK Plastics, with a strong focus on laboratory projects.  Mark has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Texas Tech University, a Professional Engineer License from Texas, and a LEED AP Accreditation. Mark is an active member of ASHE, APPA, ASHRAE, CAHED, I2SL, ISPE, & USGBC.
